Over the past few weeks, the pioneer combat support company of the Melk Pioneers has been following a current Bundesheerreport, the Melk Engineer Support Company has completed “intensive training on the super-heavy machine gun and the electrically remote-controlled weapon station”.
The highlight was an exercise on August 18 and 19: the future gunners of the engineer reconnaissance and protected engineer platoon moved to the Wildings firing range at the Allentsteig military training area, where they were able to demonstrate their skills in live firing for the first time.
Two Husar multi-purpose vehicles and a Pandur Evolution were used as carrier vehicles.

The Pandur Evolution is the optimized and modernized variant of the Pandur armoured personnel carrier that has been in service with the Austrian Armed Forces for decades. In 2018, the influx of initially 34 new Pandur Evolution vehicles began, which were delivered to GDELS-Steyr in Vienna-Simmering. The order was subsequently increased: around 100 new vehicles have now been handed over to the Austrian Armed Forces and another 225 Pandur Evolution vehicles in various versions were ordered in winter 2024.
