Over the past few days, 42 militia soldiers received a detailed update on the current operations of the Salzburg Military Command and spent five days practicing their operational functions. The first partial mobilization of militia forces in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic once again demonstrated the importance of the militia in the Austrian Armed Forces. Salzburg’s military commander, Brigadier General Anton Waldner, welcomed the militia soldiers with a wide range of civilian professional backgrounds to the special weapons exercise in the Schwarzenberg barracks.

At the beginning of the five-day exercise from May 3 to 7, 2021, the Operations Command Department of the Salzburg Military Command provided detailed information about the ongoing Covid-19 mission. The high demand for qualified new personnel and new training opportunities for conscripts and prospective militia soldiers were also discussed.

First aid training for the militia soldiers of the Salzburg Military Command.

During live firing with assault rifle 77 and pistol 80 at the Glanegg shooting range, the militia comrades refreshed their basic military skills and took part in a sporting competition. Before the live firing, the militia soldiers were able to practise and improve their handling and shooting training with the Pistol 80 on the shooting simulator. The members of the militia used their duty in their respective staff departments to contribute to the fulfillment of current tasks. The exercise also included a first aid course and briefings on the highly topical subjects of “drones” and “black out”.
