The Islamic State has come under military pressure in recent months. Large areas have been lost to rebel groups and Syrian and Iraqi troops, and the terrorist militia is in retreat. This development has also had an impact on the IS propaganda apparatus, which, according to a recent US study, has recently been significantly weakened. According to the study, fewer videos are now going online and their content has also changed. The number of photos and videos posted by the group fell from 700 in August 2015 to less than 200 in August 2016. Unlike in the past, the posts also show fewer markets, schools and other public facilities that illustrate the supposedly flourishing everyday life in the caliphate. “The militia is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain the appearance of a functioning state,” says study director Daniel Milton from the Counterterrorism Center at West Point Military Academy.
