On September 22, the Austrian Armed Forces invited the public to a large exhibition in the pedestrian zone of Eisenstadt. The occasion was a special one: the Burgenland Military Command is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
In addition to weapons and heavy equipment from the past and present (such as the Ulan infantry fighting vehicle, the Kürassier armored fighting vehicle, the Pandur wheeled armored personnel carrier, ambulances, …), various units of the Austrian Armed Forces (-> here you can find the latest army news), including the military dog center from Kaisersteinbruch, the military police, the Catholic and Protestant military chaplaincies and the Theresian Military Academy. The information tent of the military dog center was particularly popular with children, as the four-legged members of the army could be petted extensively. Visitors were also offered free food from the “goulash cannon”.
The actual event was opened at 1.30 p.m. with a concert by the Burgenland Military Band under the direction of Kapellmeister Colonel Hans Miertl, whereby the Radetzky March – at the personal request of the Burgenland military commander, Brigadier Gernot Gasser – was of course a must. In their speeches, Brigadier Gasser and the Mayor of Eisenstadt, Thomas Steiner, also emphasized the excellent partnership between the city of Eisenstadt and the Burgenland Military Command. https://militaeraktuell.at/saab-eroeffnet-neuen-standort-in-bremen/ This was followed by hourly performance shows, including a “fashion show” with uniforms from the past 60 years, as well as a demonstration by Jäger Battalion 19 from Güssing, including the Pandur. The soldiers also demonstrated the practical application of extended self-help and comrade assistance. The festive finale of the celebrations was the Grand Tattoo in the evening, which was also attended by Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.
