The first conscript class of the Second Republic was called up in 1956. On October 15, a total of 12,823 conscripts moved into the barracks between Lake Constance and Lake Neusiedl, 172 of them for the selection course for the military academy in the barracks in Enns.
127 of the 172 participants in the selection course passed and from then on formed the “F class”. Initially trained in Enns and Ebelsberg, they were transferred to the restored castle in Wiener Neustadt in December 1958. On March 18, 1959, 87 members of “Class F” were mustered out as ensigns – the first muster out in Wiener Neustadt after an interruption of 21 years. https://militaeraktuell.at/diehl-defence-und-tauber-gruenden-joint-venture/ 65 years later, on Monday, August 26, 2024, eight members of the class returned to the military academy to commemorate the 65th anniversary of their muster out. Also present was the former teaching officer of the class, General Karl Majcen. After a welcome from the Academy Commandant and information about the “Military Academy in 2024” and plans for the future, the Head of the Development Department, Colonel Manfred Stacher, gave a talk about the Ukraine conflict (-> current news from the Ukraine war). After lunch, a wreath-laying ceremony and a prayer service were held in St. George’s Cathedral to commemorate the deceased members of the class, as well as former instructors, teachers and superiors of all ranks. The reunion ended at the Reichenau seminar center, where many experiences from their time together in training and service were recalled.
