The UK Ministry of Defense and MBDA have extended their strategic partnership in complex weapons for a further decade with a renewed Portfolio Management Agreement (PMA). The agreement, known as PMA2, is worth at least €7.7 billion and is designed to deliver faster, more cost-effective and more flexible combat-proven complex weapons to the UK Armed Forces.

The first PMA agreement ensured a strong British industrial base. The agreement also led to confirmed savings of around 3.1 billion euros, as the two partners emphasize in a recent press release. A further benefit was that the program also promoted international cooperation, resulting in a more than six-fold increase in UK exports. https://militaeraktuell.at/leutnant-eduard-neuwinger-kaiserjaeger/ The new contract now confirms MBDA as the Ministry of Defence’s preferred supplier for complex weapons. The framework agreement will deliver a further nearly €2.4 billion in benefits and efficiencies, while also enhancing current capabilities. The new agreement is also expected to deliver new systems such as the future Cruise and Anti-Ship Weapon (FC/ASW), Land Precision Strike and the further development of Meteor. Chris Allam, Managing Director of MBDA UK, said: “The extension of the partnership between the MoD and MBDA for a further decade underlines our role as a key national player in support of the UK Armed Forces. PMA2 will build on the many successes of the past decade while delivering greater value, speed and flexibility to the UK Armed Forces and enabling better collaboration with our allies across Europe.”

The current PMA2 agreement can draw on a decade of experience in managing the complex weapons portfolio. This enables a range of performance improvement measures, including improved commercial agreements, accelerating procurement processes and enabling ‘always-on’ manufacturing. With this type of manufacturing, the industry is on standby to respond quickly to requirements – in this case from the UK Ministry of Defense.
