Denmark has signed an agreement for the procurement of French Mistral 3 missiles from MBDA has been signed. The Skyranger Piranha V wheeled armored vehicles are also to be armed with these in future.
According to a recent press release from the Danish Ministry of Defense, the missiles are to be deployed “in future as part of the army’s new ground-based, very short-range air defence”. Alongside Austria (36 systems) and Germany (19), Denmark is Denmark is the third customer for the Skyranger anti-aircraft turret of the Swiss Rheinmetall Air Defense.
A total of 250 to 1,000 Mistral 3s are to be procured.
“This agreement is another important step in the expansion of Danish air defense. It not only underlines the close security cooperation with France, but also strengthens our national defense capability and security,” said Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen. “At a time when there is war in Europe and the security situation is constantly changing, a close partnership with France is of crucial importance.”
“Europe must stand together and take much more responsibility for its own and Euro-Atlantic security. It is therefore essential that the whole of Europe invests massively in the expansion of its own defense industry. A strengthened European defense industry is crucial for the success of the current rearmament – and France plays a central role in this,” continued Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
