This week, members of the Lower Austria “Kopal” fighter battalion practiced on the CATT (Combined Arms Tactical Trainer) simulation system at the Burstyn barracks in Zwölfaxing. The battalion commander and his company and platoon commanders trained the planning of the operation and the follow-up assessment during the battle. The exercise scenario was the protection of critical infrastructure. The CATT can realistically simulate modern combat. This provides an inexpensive and effective training opportunity for command personnel. One participant in the exercise: “After a few hours of familiarization with using the CATT, I was ready to play through scenarios with the other participants myself. Using the headset and communicating with the commander made it feel real. What can also be practiced well here is that you can be deployed as a commander, driver or drone operator.” The Jägerbataillon Niederösterreich also used this exercise to coordinate and prepare for next year’s ordered weapons exercise with a full force.
