Lockheed Martin handed over the 51st and 52nd F-35As to the Norwegian Air Force on Tuesday, completing the delivery of the jets ordered as part of the procurement program. This makes Norway the first F-35 partner country to receive its full contingent.
“The F-35 is the best fighter aircraft in the world, and I am very pleased that we have now received the last of our order from Lockheed Martin,” said Minister of Defense Tore O. Sandvik. “These jets will enable us to maintain Norwegian sovereignty and further strengthen control over our land, sea and airspace.”
Chauncey McIntosh, Vice President and General Manager of the F-35 program at Lockheed Martin, also (naturally) expressed his satisfaction: “The F-35 strengthens interoperability within the Norwegian armed forces and improves situational awareness across all branches of the armed forces – a decisive contribution to transatlantic security.”
McIntosh continued: “We are honored to continue our 50-year partnership with Norway and to support the Norwegian Air Force in staying ahead of any future threats.”
