Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank is commander of the Bundeswehr’s new Operational Command.

“Hostile activities against the Bundeswehr in Germany, against critical infrastructure and increased spying are clearly recognizable,” explained the Lieutenant General.

Sollfrank also told the German Press Agency (DPA) about “intrusion attempts” into Bundeswehr properties and warned of threats from the air. “Time and again, drones are sighted over sensitive areas where they have no business being.”

The repeated acts of sabotage in the Baltic Sea are also a cause for concern. Although it is still unclear exactly how the incidents came about or who was behind them, there are “already suspicious facts” that point to a deliberate intention to cause damage, explains Sollfrank.

The Operational Command, which he heads, is to consistently focus the Bundeswehr on national and alliance defense. From April 1, it is to be fully operational and ensure unified command for missions ranging from official and disaster relief to military evacuation operations and defense.

In addition, the command is working on the further development of “OPLAN Deutschland” – the first comprehensive defense plan since the end of the Cold War.
