Lieutenant General Karl Schmidseder was appointed as the new Head of Directorate 3 (Training).
After graduating from high school and completing his one-year volunteer training and officer training at the Theresian Military Academy, Schmidseder served in various command functions in Freistadt and Linz-Ebelsberg before completing his general staff training at the National Defense Academy from 1991 to 1994.
He subsequently held various positions at the Vienna Military Command and the Ministry of Defense (BMLV) and was Chief of Staff at the Command for International Operations in Götzendorf. He was deployed on the 1991 security operation on the border with the former Yugoslavia as well as in Albania, Kosovo and Afghanistan and also completed international training courses.
From 2008 he was Military Commander of Vienna and from 2011 Chief of Staff at the BMLV. In 2017, he then became Head of Section IV – Operations and most recently worked in the Capabilities and Policy Planning Directorate.
