Leonardo and Baykar Technologies have announced the establishment of a joint venture focusing on the development of unmanned technologies. The two companies signed a letter of intent to this effect in Rome at the beginning of March 2025.
The new company will be called LBA Systems and will have its legal and operational headquarters in Italy. Leonardo and Baykar each hold 50 percent of the shares. LBA Systems will cover the entire life cycle of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) – from design and development to production, maintenance and repair.
Roberto Cingolani, CEO of Leonardo, explains: “Today we are signing a new strategic international alliance, creating a major player in the field of unmanned technologies. We are convinced that technological collaboration is a key lever to address the unprecedented challenges in the defense sector. The combination of Leonardo’s experience in certification and integrated multi-domain technologies and Baykar’s leading platforms in the field of unmanned systems offers enormous potential – both at European level and globally. We are thus consistently implementing our industrial plan with a focus on internationalization to establish Leonardo as a global security partner.”
