The Latvian Ministry of Defense and General Dynamics European Land Systems-Santa Bárbara Sistemas (GDELS) have started contract negotiations for the delivery of new tracked vehicles. The Latvian Ministry recently confirmed that the Ascod from GDELS had been selected following an international competition with extensive functional tests.

Alejandro Page, GDELS Vice President for Programs, commented on the selection: “This decision once again underlines GDELS’ outstanding performance in the field of tracked vehicles. The Ascod is a state-of-the-art combat vehicle that fully meets the complex requirements of today’s mission profiles.”

“The Ascod will provide the Latvian Armed Forces with a significant capability increase in mobility, firepower and protection, while ensuring significant added value for the domestic defense industry,” said Thomas Kauffmann, GDELS Vice President of Global Sales.

The Ascod has already been introduced in different variants and configurations in the armed forces of five countries: Spain, Austria (with the Armed Forces Austria (known as Ulan in the German army), the UK, the USA and the Philippines – a total of 1,200 vehicles in service or under contract.
