From November 20 to December 1, 220 participants in the “Joint Action 2023” exercise rehearsed a military emergency against conventional opponents. The exercise was used to train leaders of the Armed Forces for new challenges on the battlefield. Combat was practiced by large units of the land forces. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner paid a visit to the simulation exercise in Wiener Neustadt on 30 November.
“During the two-week exercise, the soldiers were intensively prepared for the diverse and complex challenges of the future, which could even include a military threat in the worst-case scenario,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner during her visit. “Thanks to their innovative and up-to-date training at the Theresian Military Academy and other military units over the past few months, the exercise participants had the opportunity to put their acquired knowledge into practice. The simulation training technology offers a practical presentation and processing of operational scenarios. Our soldiers have excellent knowledge of how to deal with crisis situations. Preparation for a wide range of missions is of crucial importance to ensure the protection of the Austrian population.” The “Joint Action 2023” exercise project was carried out by the National Defense Academy. It is the largest simulation exercise in the current calendar year with 220 exercise participants. The exercise served to apply the knowledge acquired in conventional combat and ultimately for military national defense. The core element of military operational command is combined arms combat, which serves to bring together different types of weaponry in different types of operations. This topic was implemented using an exercise brigade consisting of leaders from various levels, from the general staff course to midshipmen from the military academy. https://militaeraktuell.at/airbus-macht-eurofighter-fit-fuer-den-elektronischen-kampf/ The exercise was divided into two phases: The first phase was an operational planning of an attack by an armored infantry brigade against a fictitious enemy in the Mostviertel – Tullner Feld area. The second phase served to simulate the planned operation against the enemy group using the command simulator of the Theresian Military Academy. The command simulator provides a virtual representation of the battle, giving a brigade and its battalions the opportunity to implement plans and make decisions in battle based on a realistic course of events. No troops or large military equipment such as tanks or aircraft are required for this. These are represented by tactical operators in the simulator.
