The Norwegian government has announced that, in cooperation with Germany and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace as the lead industrial partner, will begin developing the next generation of missiles.
The current Naval Strike Missile (NSM) was also developed by Kongsberg, but the new missile is intended to complement the NSM. It will be called the Super Sonic Strike Missile (3SM) Tyrfing and is expected to be operational in 2035. The first version of the NSM was developed in the early 2000s and delivered to the Norwegian armed forces between 2011 and 2015. In the meantime, 13 countries have opted for the missile. The development of the new missile is a joint project between Norway and Germany and will be deployed on naval vessels of both countries once completed. https://militaeraktuell.at/dann-sind-wir-in-europa-ganz-vorne-dabei/ The Norwegian Minister of Defense, Bjørn Arild Gram, said: “The development of Norwegian missiles is a success story. The Norwegian defense industry, with Kongsberg at the forefront, has unique know-how and produces world-class missiles. The project will further develop this strategically important know-how so that we can continue to develop missiles that are attractive to other NATO countries and close allies.”
