The two defense companies Leonardo DRS and KNDS have announced that they have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly offer a high-performance, self-propelled howitzer system to the U.S. defense market. This is the Caesar howitzer, which meets the US Army’s requirements for greater range and improved mobility. The system is designed for accuracy, adaptability and rapid global deployment and is already battle-tested.

Leonardo DRS will act as the main contractor. The subsidiary of the Italian aerospace company has been a leader in the field of platform integration for many years. KNDS – developer of mobile artillery systems and a complete range of ammunition – will act as designer and current manufacturer of the Caesar system. The US Army a highly effective combat system that has already proven itself in combat environments.

“The ability for soldiers to quickly and reliably aim artillery at the target is a critical mission facing the U.S. Army,” said Aaron Hankins, senior vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Systems business unit. “By partnering with KNDS, we are proud to provide this service with a mature, accurate and powerful solution that is ready to deploy today.”

Designed to provide artillery support with long range, precision and fast response times, the Caesar self-propelled howitzer can meet the US Army’s immediate requirements for artillery systems. The system’s rapid firepower and high mobility make it flexible to deploy. Caesar’s architecture has proven to be particularly relevant in Ukraine in the fight against the threat posed by UAVs and loitering munitions.
