The Bundeswehr is optimizing catering for soldiers in the field and is receiving new mobile field kitchens for this purpose. The President of the Bundeswehr Procurement Office, Annette Lehnigk-Emden, yesterday took delivery of the first of 85 systems from a procurement framework agreement with the company Kärcher Futuretech GmbH in Schwaikheim. Up to 400 field kitchens can be called up from the agreement in the future.

On the occasion of the handover, Lehnigk-Emden pointed out that the principle of “thinking in terms of deployment” aims to enable the Bundeswehr to perform the entire range of tasks and to keep it ready for deployment. Operational readiness includes, in particular, troop catering. It is a strategically important area of logistics. Catering for troops is particularly important for maintaining the fighting strength and morale of soldiers. “The Mobile Field Kitchen is more than just a snack wagon placed in the field,” she emphasized in the presence of numerous guests, including from the Bundeswehr Logistics Command and the Medical Services Command, as well as members of the project team and the contractor Kärcher Futuretech. “We have before us an outstanding example of good and goal-oriented cooperation between a public client and a contractor from the German SME sector.” Hartmut Jenner, CEO of Kärcher, also expressed his thanks for the good and intensive cooperation on this challenging project. Before the start of series delivery, a system set up in two 20-foot containers underwent extensive testing, including in hot and cold conditions in Spain and the Arctic Circle. During numerous tests under sometimes extreme climatic conditions, the new field kitchen system successfully demonstrated all the required functionalities and compliance with current safety and hygiene standards. https://militaeraktuell.at/nationalrat-widmet-esich-militaerbudget-fuer-2024/ The mobile field kitchen is used to store, prepare, cook and serve food and drinks for up to 250 people. All necessary technical equipment, operating materials and the associated catering (including 2,600 liters of drinking water) are carried along for 24-hour, self-sufficient operation. The new kitchen systems are designed for national and alliance defense scenarios as well as worldwide operations. In order to make the new systems available to the troops as quickly as possible, 30 systems per year are to be delivered by the industry from now on.
