A few days ago at the Ivan Cankar barracks in Vrhnika, Slovenia, the field part of the military exercise “Jump”, which was used to train the response to a terrorist threat, came to an end. The scenario included an act of sabotage in a technical warehouse for military equipment in Borovnica and a huge explosion.

In addition to members of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the exercise was also attended by representatives of the Slovenian national security system – including representatives of the Intelligence and Security Service, the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency, the police, the University Hospital in Ljubljana, the Slovenian Administration for Protection and Rescue, volunteer fire department associations and the professional fire department, the Directorate for Defense Affairs, the Specialized Public Prosecutor’s Office and the municipalities of Vrhnika and Borovnica.

The Slovenian armed forces trained in increased readiness for the immediate deployment of forces in the event of a counter-terrorism operation and tested the coordination of planning and operations of the armed forces with other actors in the national security system at the operational level when responding to terrorist threats. Procedures were standardized to increase readiness for joint operations. At the end, the participants evaluated the results of the exercise and the findings are to be incorporated into the future planning of such joint exercises.

The military exercise series “Jump” serves to test the planning, alerting, activation and deployment of the Standby Force and the Response Force of the Slovenian armed forces. The aim is to maintain the combat character of the country’s armed forces.
