Diehl Defense and Lockheed Martin have entered into an agreement that includes the potential to combine the two companies’ air defense capabilities for international surface combatant programs for navies around the world.
On the occasion of this year’s Berlin Security Conference (BSC), Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence, and Chandra Marshall, Vice President at Lockheed Martin, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a ceremony at the conference venue. As part of the cooperation, the possibility of integrating guided missiles from the Iris-T family into the Aegis weapon system and the MK41 vertical launch system will be examined in detail.

“By combining their expertise and capabilities, Diehl Defence and Lockheed Martin will enable navies worldwide to benefit from the optimum for air defense systems on their surface combatants,” said Helmut Rauch. “We are proud to intensify our cooperation with Lockheed Martin in the field of missiles and air defense applications.”
Chandra Marshall was also impressed by the cooperation: “This strategic collaboration is further proof of the scalability and increased capacity of our programs, bringing next-generation IAMD capabilities and 21st century security to the world.” Marshall continued: “We have been working with German industry for more than five decades and are proud to deepen our relationships by working with leading innovators like Diehl Defence.”

Diehl Defence has a long track record in air defense systems, while Lockheed Martin has extensive experience in the Aegis weapon system and associated integrated air and missile defense technologies. Together, the two capabilities can “provide navies around the world with a superior solution to protect their fleets from airborne threats,” according to a recent press release from the two companies.
Diehl Defence and Lockheed Martin have already worked together on various projects in the past. Recently, both companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the global missile supply chain for the Patriot system.
