On Saturday, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner opened the first three generally renovated crew quarters (M1 – M3) at the Allentsteig military training area and handed them over for use by the practicing troops. At the same time, she initiated the second construction phase – two further crew quarters (M4 & M5) will also be completely renovated by 2025.

Federal Minister Tanner commented: “Only a modern armed forces (-> here you can find the latest army news) can meet the demands of the 21st century. We want to be an attractive employer for our soldiers and civilian staff. To achieve this, we need modern barracks and training areas. This new infrastructure creates the possibilities for this, together with other measures for personnel such as various salary increases, bonuses and modern service and salary law adjustments, we want to create the optimal framework conditions so that our armed forces can fulfill their mission to protect the population in the best possible way.”

With the completion of the general refurbishment of the M1 – M3 crew quarters, the soldiers on training now have modern accommodation at their disposal. Over a construction period of 17 months, the Austrian Armed Forces invested a total of 16 million euros here, including the associated infrastructure and furnishings. As part of the construction work, the entire infrastructure was renewed, from the roots to the building connections. Special attention was paid to environmental protection and sustainability during the general refurbishment. Thermal insulation was installed and photovoltaic systems were installed on the roofs.

In the second construction phase, two further crew quarters (M4 & M5) will also be completely renovated and brought up to the same modern standard by 2025. Around ten million euros will be invested in this.
