Hirtenberger Defence and the Swiss armaments agency armasuisse recently took a major step towards the deployment of the electronic aiming system ELAD in the Swiss Armed Forces. As the domestic manufacturer announced, extensive functionality, accuracy and handling tests of the system, also known as MDAS (Mortar Digital Aiming Solution), were successful.

“We are delighted that the ELAD system has proven its suitability under real shooting conditions. The system is now functional and ready for series production and delivery to the Swiss Army,” says Hirtenberger Managing Director Carsten Barth, for whom the advantages of the aiming device are obvious: “We are allowing customers to integrate the mortar into their digital environment or battle management systems and we are increasing the range of applications for the 81 mm mortar. It also allows us to set up and aim independently of aiming circles and periscopes, even without GPS data.” The system is available for Hirtenberger’s entire fleet of 81 mm and 120 mm mortars. In the case of Switzerland, the delivery of a total of 300 ELAD systems is planned.
