With the signing of a letter of intent, the Museum of Military History (HGM) and the Nauders Fortress Museum are laying the foundations for cooperation between the institutions as part of the new museum development of the popular excursion destination in the border triangle of Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

In future, the experts from the Museum of Military History will support the Nauders Fortress Museum in developing a museum concept for the optimal use of resources and integration into the museum landscape. They will advise on military history and curatorial aspects of the thematic orientation and design of exhibitions. The two museums will also cooperate in planning joint exhibitions and creating museum partnerships.

“The Nauders Fortress Museum is an exciting place to discover not only the military history of the 19th and 20th centuries, but also how it was used by the Austrian Armed Forces right up to the present day. I am delighted that this place, which is so important for the Austrian Armed Forces and Austrian history, is now being made accessible on a broad and professional basis,” says Klaudia Tanner, Federal Minister of Defense.

“The museum redesign of the Nauders Fortress Museum is an important step in reflecting the history of the region, but also for the Austrian Armed Forces. With this collaboration, the Museum of Military History is taking the next step in its role as Austria’s leading military history research institution,” says Georg Hoffmann, Director of the Museum of Military History.
