The European defense procurement agency OCCAR has selected the consortium of Hensoldt Optronics and Theon Sensors with the delivery of a further 100,000 night vision goggles to the German Armed Forces and 4,000 to the Belgian armed forces commissioned.
The procurement for the German and Belgian armed forces will strengthen European interoperability. Since 2021, the two contractors have already delivered more than 50,000 night vision goggles to these European armed forces. The aim is to reach more than 178,000 units by the end of 2030.
The Mikron night vision goggles also come with an In-Service Support (ISS) agreement. This is intended to sustainably strengthen the night vision and operational capabilities of both armed forces.
Michael Holzmann, Managing Director of Hensoldt Theon NightVision GmbH, explains: “Night vision is essential in times of growing insecurity – by equipping our soldiers with Mikron night vision goggles, we are offering them information superiority even at night.”
Christina Canitz, Head of Division Optronics Hensoldt adds: “Night vision equipment should not be an optional extra. We are pleased that it is increasingly being seen as basic equipment by the Bundeswehr. I am pleased to continue the successful cooperation with Theon and that we are able to create more jobs in Wetzlar with this order.”
