Around 200 soldiers recently recited the pledge of allegiance to the Republic of Austria at a military ceremony to mark the 110th anniversary of the Army Clothing Institute in Brunn am Gebir.
Brigadier Kurt Wagner was on site as the highest ranking military officer, while Martin Schuster, Member of Parliament, represented the state of Lower Austria on behalf of Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. The Army Clothing Institute in Brunn am Gebirge is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year. The barracks, which have been under the control of the Austrian Armed Forces since 1957, were built in 1913 as an imperial and royal clothing depot. Today it is the competence center for military clothing and personal equipment of the Austrian Armed Forces (-> here you can find the latest army news). To mark the occasion, the Army Clothing Depot hosted an exhibition, a concert by the Lower Austrian Military Band, the award ceremony for the “Serviceman of the Year” of Vienna and the subsequent swearing-in ceremony for around 200 conscripts from Vienna and Lower Austria.

The main task of the Army Clothing Institute as a logistics facility of the Austrian Armed Forces is to supply soldiers with clothing and personal equipment. This includes processes of development, procurement support, quality assurance, storage and distribution. The Army Clothing Institute is not only responsible for the Austrian Armed Forces, but also for equipping the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Transport and works closely with its partner school, the Höhere Technische Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt Wien 5 Spengergasse. “I pledge!”
After the sonorous concert by the Military Music of Lower Austria, the ceremony began with the words of welcome from the host, Director Markus Waldner, Head of the Brunn am Gebirge Army Clothing Institute, who was delighted to be able to perform the swearing-in ceremony on the historic grounds of the Brunn am Gebirge Army Clothing Institute. “Wear this uniform with pride,” he said to the young recruits.

The mayor of the market town, Andreas Linhart, welcomed the new recruits and their families and wished them all the best for their future as soldiers. “Thank you for choosing to serve in the Austrian Armed Forces even in these difficult times,” said Vienna’s military commander, Brigadier General Kurt Wagner, to the recruits, emphasizing that those serving in the basic armed forces make a significant contribution to fulfilling the Armed Forces’ mission. He was also pleased about the planned budget increase and fixed commitments for the coming years in order to be able to fulfill the diverse tasks of the Austrian Armed Forces. He then presented Private Benjamin Borenich with the “Private of the Year” award.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Member of Parliament Martin Schuster said: “Thank you for deciding to serve in the Austrian Armed Forces in a peacemaking capacity. We are honored by your work and your commitment.” He wished the young soldiers all the best on behalf of the Province of Lower Austria and the Governor. Finally, the recruits took the solemn oath of allegiance. One of the conscripts to be sworn in stepped up to the microphone, five male and one female soldier took the insignia of the first guard company. Together with their comrades, they recited the pledge of allegiance to the Republic of Austria.
