Last Friday, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner handed over six MAN coaches to the troops at the Maria Theresa barracks. The handover represents a further optimization of the bus fleet and is an important step towards a modern armed forces and an investment in mobility. The purchase price of the six buses amounted to around two million euros.
“I am delighted that we have been able to modernize the army’s bus fleet a little with this new addition. In addition, future journeys for our troops will now be particularly comfortable and even more environmentally friendly. Investing in our own mobility strengthens the self-sufficiency of the Armed Forces when it comes to transporting personnel,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.

In addition, this modernization step will reduce operating costs and protect the environment by using engines with the latest exhaust technology – in line with the government initiative “The public sector shows the way!”. In September 2020, Defense Minister Tanner handed over six modern MAN Lion’s Coach R08 large-capacity buses (Militär Aktuell reported) and most recently in June for the “Mobility in the administration” project, 30 electric vehicles (Militär Aktuell reported) to the troops. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lsO1iioZo0&feature=emb_title The two-axle high-capacity buses cost around 314,000 euros each. With an overall length of 12.1 meters and 51 seats, they offer a drive power of 430 hp with low fuel consumption. The additional equipment has been tailored to the needs of soldiers for short journeys and long distances. For example, a refrigerator, thermos and coffee pot holders, air conditioning, additional heating, a built-in toilet, LCD monitors, DVD players and USB sockets on the passenger seats ensure contemporary comfort in the new buses on long journeys to foreign missions.
