From combat shirts to cold protection jackets – the soldiers of the German Navy will receive the first delivery of the new clothing system from Gore-Tex Professional Fabrics by the end of 2025.

Around 11,000 marines receive the weatherproof and flame-retardant clothing from Gore-Tex Professional Fabrics. As part of a Europe-wide tender, the specialist for technical functional materials is supplying a large proportion of the functional textiles for the clothing system. Gore-Tex is working with partners DNS Alpha, Goldeck/Carinthia, Schöffel and Wattana, who manufacture the clothing from Gore materials, to equip the German Navy.

The new uniform is a clothing system tailored to the needs of the high seas. The core requirement was for the uniform to be flame-retardant. Due to the narrow escape routes and dangerous sources of fire, this special protection is necessary for the crews. Gore-Tex has therefore equipped the flight and combat suits with Gore-Tex Pyrad technology. This makes the protective clothing abrasion-, heat- and flame-resistant as well as lightweight and breathable. The technology is based on a laminate that forms a protective charring layer when exposed to heat and flames.
