GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors (GM), unveiled its new Next Gen tactical vehicle prototype at AUSA (October 13-16). The company also presented its tactical power supply solution for expeditions and its Infantry Utility Vehicle.
The new “Next Gen” tactical vehicle is based on the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD ZR2 and combines GM’s 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine with a 12-module battery pack and drive motors for the front and rear axles. These axles enable Silent Drive and Silent Watch technologies, which should make the vehicle harder to detect. In addition to an integrated on-board power supply to support sensors, firearms and soldier equipment with high energy requirements, several safety systems – such as rollover protection, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, four- and five-point seat belts and 360-degree cameras – are also on board. In addition, it is designed to provide unobtrusive entry and exit in hazardous areas. https://militaeraktuell.at/leonardo-rheinmetall-panzer-joint-venture/ “Our Next Gen vehicle is a breakthrough mobility solution that delivers tactically significant capabilities by integrating GM’s proven commercial technologies,” said Steve duMont, president of GM Defense. “This rugged and highly capable diesel vehicle offers tactical advantages such as silent operations, exportable power and extended range for longer mission durations.” In addition to the vehicle’s features already listed, the system also has several advantages in terms of maintenance. For example, the fuel requirement has been reduced. In addition, fewer parts and subsystems are used in the entire drive system, which means that less maintenance is required. In addition, the logistical effort for fuel, batteries and vehicle parts should also be significantly reduced. https://militaeraktuell.at/schiebel-s-100-repmus-sonobojen-abwurf/ “The ‘wow’ factor of Next Gen is right behind the wheel,” promised John Johnson, Vice President of Government Solutions and Strategy at GM Defense. “Customers need to drive this high-performance vehicle to see, feel and hear the benefits. Next Gen is fundamentally changing the conversation about modern mobility through the tactical advantages its propulsion system offers, including its ability to close the formation energy gap. We encourage our customers to test drive it so we can demonstrate these capabilities immediately.” The “Next Gen” is available for purchase in two, four and six-seat configurations. The operational spectrum ranges from command and control to combating unmanned aerial systems to anti-tank defense and casualty evacuation.
