On December 13, the task force supply ship “Berlin” arrives in its home port of Wilhelmshaven. The “Berlin”, under the command of frigate captain Karsten Uwe Schlüter, has taken part in multinational maneuvers in the North Atlantic and off the coast of the United States (-> Task force provider “Berlin” departs for maneuver “Atlantic Bear”).
“The past voyage from the icebergs in the Arctic Circle to the subtropical climate zone off Florida demanded a lot from the ship and the crew, and not just in terms of the climate. However, we were able to carry out our mission successfully – everyone involved could always rely on the ‘Berlin’,” says the commander. In addition, the task force provider “Berlin” was the first ship of the
The ship also made history for itself during the rest of the voyage: The “Berlin” was in New York for the first time. On departure on September 11, 2025, the ship sailed along the Hudson River with large “9/11 – Never Forget” banners. On this important anniversary, the German Navy once again reaffirmed its solidarity with the USA and commemorated the victims of the terrorist attacks of 2001.
“The subsequent maneuver “Unitas 2025″ off the coast of Florida with ships from over 20 different nations was a great experience, also in the associated port phases. The crew really enjoyed the feeling of belonging to a large naval family from many countries and practising together at sea,” said Frigate Captain Schlüter. “I look back on our completed voyage with pride – we fulfilled our mission! We were always there where we were needed, always flexible and ready to support other ships at sea.”
The task force supply ship “Berlin” has covered almost 17,000 nautical miles (around 31,000 kilometers). The ship is returning to Wilhelmshaven with 180 people. In addition to the crew, soldiers from Naval Air Wing 5 from Nordholz, the shipboard weapons group of the naval battalion from Eckernförde and Helicopter Wing 64 from Laupheim (Baden-Württemberg) were also on board.
