At the end of November, the Austrian population was able to be vaccinated at Salzburg Airport in a C-130 transport aircraft of the Austrian Armed Forces. The German Air Force is now offering a similar event at Kassel Airport. On January 29, aviation enthusiasts from the age of 5 can be vaccinated against Covid-19 exclusively in an Airbus A400M of the German Air Force.

The operation, which is being carried out in cooperation between Kassel Airport, reserve medical staff officers, the Johanniter Regionalverband Kurhessen and the Wunstorf 62 Air Transport Wing, will run from 10:00 to 18:00. After picking up German citizens from Wuhan in January 2020, their subsequent accommodation in Germersheim in Rhineland-Palatinate, transporting patients requiring intensive care from Italy and France to Germany, providing administrative assistance and, most recently, transporting patients within Germany as part of “Operation Kleeblatt”, the air force has fulfilled a wide variety of missions in the fight against the pandemic. “I am delighted to be able to present one of our A400Ms to the aviation enthusiasts in Hesse as part of this fantastic campaign and wish everyone involved every success. Every vaccination counts and we are happy to make our contribution here as part of society,” said Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz, Inspector General of the German Air Force. The Airbus A400M is the “centerpiece” of the German Air Force’s military air transport. The high-wing aircraft with four propeller engines, each with 8,250 kW (10,838 hp), is designed as a strategic and tactical transport aircraft for material and personnel, with space for up to 114 soldiers. It can also be used as a flying refueling station and to care for sick or wounded soldiers. The A400M has a length of 45.10 meters, is 14.70 meters high and has a wingspan of 42.36 meters. The empty weight is 78.6 tons and the maximum take-off weight is 141 tons.
