For the participants of the 22nd General Staff Training, the assessment of the situation based on the map (Militär Aktuell reported), it was now time to take a look at the terrain.
Terrain briefings are an important part of tactical training. The primary aim is to sharpen the command personnel’s awareness of the terrain and to clearly demonstrate its influence on the execution of military missions. The Danube region from Enns to Tulln was explored with two Black Hawks and three external landings. This terrain is the operational area of the curriculum game “Dynamic Response”, which serves as the basis for tactics training on the FH Master’s degree course in Military Leadership.
In addition, the air force and air defense school of the Austrian Armed Forces was also visited. The participants were instructed in the tactical capabilities of the air forces. Tacticians have to get the different branches of the armed forces to work together – this requires knowledge of the capabilities of all combat and support troops.
