General Martin Herem joins the Milrem Robotics team. Until the end of June, Martin Herem was commander of the Estonian armed forces, but from August he will be assisting Milrem Robotics as a military strategy consultant.
His task will be to “bridge the gap between end-user requirements and product development”, according to a recent press release from the company. “In particular, he will oversee the process of evaluating the data collected in Ukraine (-> current news from the Ukraine war) and transform these into future use cases for land robotics. Herem will also advise senior management, business development and capability development departments on decision-making from a military user perspective.”
“General Herem has extensive knowledge of how to develop operational military capabilities in an efficient and intelligent way. He will support Milrem in offering even better and more suitable system solutions based on ground robotics,” Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics, is convinced.
Herem himself said: “The war in Ukraine and the use of THeMIS and other ground robots from Milrem Robotics on the battlefield have shown how important these systems are and that it is becoming increasingly important to develop them further so that they can better fulfill their task of keeping soldiers as far away from danger as possible. My aim is to ensure that the knowledge gained on the Ukrainian battlefield is incorporated into future robotic systems.”
General Herem joined the service in 1992. From December 2018 until the end of June this year, he was commander of the Estonian Defense Forces. Prior to that, Herem was Commander of the Estonian National Defense School from 2013 to 2016 and Chief of Staff of the Estonian Defense Forces Headquarters from 2016 to 2018. Herem was also one of the founding members of the paramilitary Estonian Defense League in 1990.
