At the end of August, GD Electric Boat launched the nuclear-powered submarine USS Iowa (SSN 797). A few days ago, the General Dynamics business unit received an order from the US Navy worth 486.4 million euros for the procurement and delivery of spare parts for the first Virginia-class attack submarines.
“Electric Boat’s shipbuilders are proud to continue to support the U.S. Navy’s submarine fleet with lifetime maintenance. This is consistent with our mission to provide Sailors with the advantage that helps protect our nation,” said Kevin Graney, President of General Dynamics Electric Boat. Following the launch of the USS Iowa, four more Virginia-class Block IV submarines are under construction: the USS Massachusetts (SSN 798), USS Arkansas (SSN 800), USS Idaho (SSN 799) and USS Utah (SSN 801). The company is also working on USS Arizona (SSN 803) and USS Tang (SSN 805) – both of which are Block V modifications
