General Dynamics European Land Systems-Steyr a few days ago at the AUSA Global Force in Huntsville, Alabama, presented a new air defense new air defense variant of its Pandur Evolution wheeled armored vehicle. New images of the vehicle, which is equipped with an unmanned RIwP turret (Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform) from Moog, are now available.

Based on the Pandur platform, the new system is armed with an XM914 cannon with a caliber of 30 x 113 millimetres and two quadruple launchers for Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. The automatic cannon can fire ammunition with a proximity fuse.

A software-defined, cognitive Ku-band 4D medium-range pulse Doppler radar of the next generation from Echodyne Echoshield is used to monitor the airspace at close range and to track targets. The two control consoles for the weapon system and the fire control computers are housed in the vehicle.

According to GDELS-Steyr, the new Pandur version is “particularly capable of providing highly mobile escort protection for units against manned and unmanned threats from the air”.
