General Dynamics European Land Systems-Bridge Systems (GDELS-Bridge Systems), agricultural machinery manufacturer Fendt and Pearson Engineering presented an unusual innovation at the “Industry Day” of the Military Engineering Center of Excellence in Ingolstadt: a Cobra bridge-laying system on a Fendt 900 Vario tractor.

The Cobra is a modular bridge system that was originally designed for use with armored wheeled and tracked platforms. The laying mechanism can be adapted to the carrier vehicle either permanently or temporarily and can be combined with two variants of the Cobra bridge: 15 meters long with a load capacity of MLC 90 and 9 meters long with MLC 120.

The cooperation now presented with Fendt expands the range of possible carrier platforms: “Tractors such as the Fendt 900 combine good off-road mobility with a high level of user-friendliness,” as stated in a recent press release from GDELS-Bridge Systems. And further: “With the small turning circle and the 180-degree rotatability of the operator’s platform for reversing, the tractor variant is particularly suitable for use in confined conditions that hinder maneuvering with heavier bridge-laying vehicles, for example in urban areas or wooded terrain.”
