A new website of the Austrian Armed Forces, www.denkmal-heer.at, is online. It is a pictorial digital representation of all memorial plaques, monuments, inscriptions, barracks stones, shrines, chapels and traditional rooms located on military properties.

The website provides an inventory of existing objects and a database for interested parties. A total of 476 memorials and 86 barracks are presented in 2,628 photos and VR images with the necessary background information. This new form of digital listing serves to raise awareness and demonstrate the transparency of the culture of remembrance both internally and externally. A central component of the website is a digital map with a monument search function using various parameters. The objects are georeferenced and presented electronically with the necessary metadata. The intention is to also display monuments in the form of 360° virtual reality (VR) images for better familiarization and optimal presentation. Barracks names and their historical background will also be presented. The Austrian Armed Forces can look back on a long tradition of soldiering in Austria. Inscriptions and commemorative plaques have been placed on properties belonging to the Federal Ministry of Defense, monuments and chapels have been erected and properties have been named after military dignitaries as part of a concrete, visible and lively examination of this tradition.
