Robert Lichal, former Minister of Defense, died today at the age of 91.

During his term of office from 1987 to 1990, the militia was established as the building principle of the Federal Army anchored in the constitution. He was a passionate fighter for his ideas. He held the office of Minister of Defense from 1987 to 1990. During his term of office, the militia structure was enshrined in the constitution and Austria’s armed forces were modernized with guided missiles. From 1990 to 1994, he was once again a member of the National Council and Second President of the National Council. During his term of office, the Draken was stationed in Zeltweg.
