A few days ago, the DART-750 aerobatic trainer with the PT6A-25C turboprop engine completed its maiden flight at Diamond Aircraft’s headquarters in Wiener Neustadt.
In January 2022 Diamond Aircraft announced that the DART-750 would be equipped with the proven 750 SHP PT6A-25C turboprop engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada. In addition to the engine upgrade, numerous other system upgrades were also carried out. Under the direction of Diamond’s Head of Flight Test Sören Pedersen and Senior Test Pilot Niko Daroussis, the maiden flight lasted 30 minutes and included all basic maneuvers including performance and handling checks. According to Diamond Aircraft, the aircraft and all tested parameters “met or exceeded all expectations”.
“This flight represents another important milestone in the DART-750 program and is a testament to the hard and outstanding work of the entire team to achieve this goal. The positive results give us confidence to continue the program as planned,” said Robert Kremnitzer, Diamond’s Head of Design Organization. The DART-750 will be a civil certified aerobatic turboprop training aircraft in a tandem seat configuration equipped with state-of-the-art Garmin G3000 avionics and the powerful 750 SHP PT6A-25C turboprop engine. Based on the DART-750, Diamond offers a DART Basic Training Solution that includes the aircraft, a proprietary DART FNPT II simulator and DART CBT (Computer Based Training). With the DART Basic Training Solution, Diamond Aircraft covers all phases of basic training including GBTS (Ground Based Training Systems) and BTA (Basic Trainer Aircraft). https://militaeraktuell.at/rheinmetall-man-bestaetigt-norwegen-deal/ The PT6A turboprop engine has been refined 120 times in the past ten years alone, proving its reliability and performance even under the most demanding conditions. The PT6A engine has been a part of the aviation industry for more than 60 years with more than 52,000 units produced, totaling more than 440 million flight hours, and Pratt & Whitney Canada’s entire engine fleet will reach one billion flight hours this year. The DART-750 will be unveiled to the general public at the 2023 Paris Airshow (Static Display #A6) and EASA Basic Certification is expected in 2024.
