The US Navy has selected Data Link Solutions, a joint venture of BAE Systems and Rockwell Collins, to supply small form factor (SFF) Link 16 radios. These systems will be equipped with BAE Systems’ FireNet Link 16 tactical systems. FireNet is a secure communications solution with open system architecture and a unified tactical network that enables Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) operations.
Today’s network-centric, information-intensive environments in which armed forces operate require wide data bandwidth, network diversity and constant connectivity. Quantities of accurate, reliable information must be exchanged in real time to maintain good situational awareness. This is where the FireNet system comes in, with additional narrowband, wideband and tactical data transfer capabilities. https://militaeraktuell.at/schweiz-uebergibt-leopard-2-an-rheinmetall/ “We have developed a small form factor system that is the first of its kind to provide full Link-16 connectivity. FireNet is scalable and modular to give our soldiers an advantage on the battlefield in network-centric environments,” said Amber Dolan, Director of Adaptive Communications and Sensing at BAE Systems. The FireNet system is compatible with Crypto Modernization 1. It offers some of the highest transmission power currently available in an SFF radio. The system meets the size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) requirements of the US Navy and can be used in rotorcraft, unmanned vehicles, ships and space platforms. It enables additional line-of-sight, voice, data and network communications from very high frequencies up to S-band.
