The so-called field camp week took place at Salzburg’s Jäger Battalion 8 in mid-August. Over the past two weeks, the conscripts from the Tamsweg and Wals-Siezenheim garrisons experienced the “life in the field” training phase.

The training focused, for example, on monitoring parts of the terrain, patrols, personal and vehicle checks as well as observation and reporting. The first weeks of training in basic military service are known as basic training. After the fifth week of training, recruits receive more specialized training depending on the type of weapon. The soldiers of Jäger Battalion 8 in the Tamsweg garrison receive infantry training: As a fighter, machine gunner or they are trained on the anti-tank barrel. The situation is different in the Wals-Siezenheim garrison in the staff company, where snipers and scouts are trained. The conscripts are also prepared for a possible assistance mission at the national border.
