Eurosam, a joint venture between Thales and MBDA, presents the SAMP/T NG system, a new system for multi-layered air defense. Originally designed to manage the munitions of the ASTER family (ASTER 30 B1 and ASTER 30 B1NT), the SAMP/T NG offers the ability to combat air threats at long range. At the same time, the system has an autonomous capability against ballistic missiles.

In addition to the ASTER capability, the SAMP/T NG will include a multi-range/multi-layer capability (SHORAD Vertical Launchers) with subordinate automatic protection to cover the full spectrum of air threats – from MTOs and drones to ABTs and TBMs. In this new configuration, the SAMP/T NG becomes a fully scalable system that can counter most saturating and combined attacks. The SAMP/T NG is thus the only European system capable of integrating multiple effectors into a complete NATO operational ABT/TBM chain.

Thanks to the open architecture of the ME NG mission module, various launchers such as Thales Ground Fire or Leonardo Kronos Grand Mobile High Power can be integrated into the SAMP/T NG. In addition, various launchers – up to six ASTER launchers with 8 fire-based missiles or up to six Short-Range Air Defense (SHORAD) launchers such as VL MICA or CAMM-ER launchers – can be installed. The system can also be embedded in a NATO chain of command and in a chain of command with higher-level command and control centers.

The ME NG insert module is the heart of the system. It was developed in collaboration between Thales and MBDA Italia. It is based on a common core hardware and software architecture and, as just described, can be used in a variety of ways.
