On August 29, specialists from the “Emergency Response Team Air” (ERTA) trained on the Seetaler Alpe. The team of experts is deployed in the event of emergencies involving aircraft.
In the event of an emergency landing or a crash, the clear focus is on quickly finding and rescuing the casualties. The soldiers also have to extinguish a possible fire or secure the on-board weapons. Such missions require a mix of different specialists. The emergency team consists of a “crash crew” for rescuing the wounded and extinguishing fires, military police officers, NBC experts, a press and documentation team, guard soldiers and the commander of the team, Styrian Captain Reinhold Kern. Transport helicopters ensure rapid transportation to the scene of the accident, while an emergency doctor helicopter provides reconnaissance of the accident site and initial medical care. The helicopters are equipped with winches, enabling them to be used even in rough, mountainous terrain.
