The company intends to further expand its presence on the continent and strengthen sales. The focus is on customized solutions for NATO– and EU member states.

“The new subsidiary will focus on selling innovative defense and security solutions to European armed forces in NATO and EU countries and strengthening Embraer’s presence in the region,” the company said.
The office in Portugal will house a specialized team of program management, support and engineering experts who will develop tailor-made solutions for customers – office manager will be Frederico Lemos. Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer, emphasized: “The opening of the office in Portugal is a strategic milestone for our expansion in Europe and a clear commitment to Embraer’s long-term vision.”
Embraer has recently enjoyed increasing sales success in Europe. This is primarily due to the C-390M multi-mission transport aircraft, for which Hungary (-> First C-390M handed over to Hungary), Czech Republic and Austria and the Netherlands in a joint procurement recently ordered a total of 13 aircraft. In addition Slovakia signed a letter of intent (LOI) for three C-390Ms a few weeks ago. (LOI) for three C-390Ms, with formal procurement due to begin in January. Sweden also signaled its interest by signing a letter of intent on November 9, Sweden also signaled its interest in acquiring four aircraft to replace its aging C-130H Hercules fleet. With the five aircraft ordered by first-time export customer Portugal in August 2019 (two delivered), this would make a total of 25 Embraer-produced aircraft that could be in service in Europe in just a few years. And with the planned maritime patrol version, this number could even increase further in the medium term.

Embraer can also look forward to increasing demand for its A-29N Super Tucano turboprop fighter trainer. Thanks to its NATO certification, the company is hoping to do good business with NATO customers, Portugal has already ordered twelve aircraft recently.
