Embraer has Rheinmetall as expected (-> First training center for the C-390M planned) with the delivery of C-390M flight simulators for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The Düsseldorf-based technology group will supply a Full Flight and Mission Simulator and a Cargo Handling Station Trainer.
According to Rheinmetall, production of the modern simulators will begin “immediately”, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2026 and an order value in the double-digit million euro range.
The Rheinmetall C-390M simulators are used to train aircrew and ground personnel for the new aircraft, which was also recently acquired by the Austrian Armed Forces (in a joint procurement with the Netherlands), Sweden, Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the Embraer C-390M transport aircraft.
The Full Flight and Mission Simulator (FFMS) complies with the Level-D standard and meets all international qualification standards. It enables crew training under normal and emergency conditions, training for military operations and allows more than 350 error simulations. It is also “easy to maintain and offers a high level of operating comfort”, according to Rheinmetall. The Dutch model is the first to use a new image generator.
The Cargo Handling Station Trainer (CHST) provides comprehensive training in the procedures of the loadmaster function for flight crews, loadmasters and other users. It uses state-of-the-art visual display technology to provide an interior view of the cargo hold and an exterior view of the entire aircraft.
For Rheinmetall, the FFMS now commissioned as part of its C-390M activities is the third major success worldwide and the second major success in Europe. Before the Dutch armed forces, Embraer itself (-> First simulator for the C-390M) and the Portuguese Air Force had already acquired an FFMS.
The Embraer C-390M transport aircraft made its maiden flight on February 3, 2015 and is in service or in the process of being introduced in Brazil, Hungary, Portugal, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and South Korea. In view of the growing number of C-390 customers in Europe, Embraer and Rheinmetall are considering establishing a C-390 training center in Europe to provide even better training support to existing and future C-390 customers.
