Elbit Systems has been awarded several contracts by the Israeli Ministry of Defense with a total value of around 200 million euros. Over a period of six years, the company will be responsible for enhancing the combat effectiveness and extending the service life of the Merkava main battle tanks of the Israeli armed forces tanks.
The core of the modernization is a comprehensive renewal of the electronic assemblies as well as the upgrade of central on-board systems. This includes new, AI-supported electro-optical targeting and observation systems that enable high-resolution all-round visibility day and night and have advanced functions for target recognition, detection and tracking. The contracts also include the supply of spare parts and a full package of maintenance and support services.
Elbit CEO Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis emphasized the importance of the contract: “Elbit Systems is proud to continue as a key partner to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces. These new contracts underscore our commitment to providing state-of-the-art solutions that further enhance the operational effectiveness and survivability of the Israeli Armored Forces.”
