The Edge Group from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) delivered an unspecified number of 4×4 Ajban 442A armored vehicles to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in April.
The Ajban 442A is a “ballistic and blast-resistant light tactical patrol vehicle”, explains an Edge spokesperson. The vehicle has a V-hull unit and has a top speed of 110 km/h and a range of 700 kilometers at a speed of 80 km/h. The patrol vehicle is powered by a 360 hp engine which, according to the Edge Group’s product literature, is capable of carrying five outgoing vehicles.

Wide range of equipment options
According to “Janes Land Warfare Platforms: Armored Fighting Vehicles”, the standard configuration of the base model Ajban 442A carries a slip ring equipped with an unprotected machine gun, which is selected by the customer.
However, the vehicle is equipped with an open electronic architecture, which means that alternative weapon systems can also be incorporated.
Ajban 442A as the first UAE export
In an interview with Janes, an Edge Group spokesperson confirmed that the Maldives was the first customer for the Ajban 442A outside the UAE. However, the Edge Group did not provide any specific details on the number of vehicles delivered.
