The Dutch 13th Light Brigade takes part in the NATO-exercise “Quadriga 2024” as part of the 10th Armored Division of the German Armed Forces armored division. The highly mobile brigade exercises with its main forces at the Army Combat Training Center in Germany. The brigade then marches via Poland to Lithuania.

On April 15, the Dutch army began its contribution to the large-scale NATO exercise “Quadriga 2024”. For two weeks, a total of 4,500 soldiers will be practising large-scale land operations. According to the commander of the 13th Light Brigade, Brigadier General Gert-Jan Kooij, the difference to the usual exercises lies mainly in the higher level of the NATO exercise. “All units are very well prepared for their tasks, but now it is important that all these sub-processes are properly linked together.”

The brigade came from the Netherlands on a road march with around 700 vehicles. In a first exercise, the units crossed a body of water near Olst-Wijhe (Netherlands). The brigade’s main forces then arrived at the Bundeswehr Combat Training Center in Gardelegen in Saxony-Anhalt. There, the troops train ground-based air defense in addition to ground combat. General tasks during deployment, such as vehicle recovery and caring for the wounded, round off the program. After training at the training center, part of the brigade will take part in the German exercise “Grand Quadriga 2024” in Lithuania. To this end, the forces will be deployed by road march via Poland through the Suwalki Gap to Lithuania.
