Raytheon and Diehl Defense have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly produce key components of the Stinger missile in Europe. This agreement lays the foundation for the expansion of Stinger missile production at Diehl Defence as part of the company’s growth plan.
“Stinger is the surface-to-air missile of choice for 24 countries, including Germany and nine other NATO-members,” said Tom Laliberty, President of Land & Air Defense Systems at Raytheon. “We are seeing historically high demand for Stinger due to its unmatched effectiveness and success against a variety of short-range threats.”
The Stinger missile is a lightweight, field-proven and fully integrated air defense system used by ground forces against cruise missiles and aircraft.
“For Diehl Defence, the resumption of Stinger missile production builds on our proven capabilities and expertise in this product range and fits seamlessly into our strong position in the ground-based air defense systems market,” said Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence.
Diehl Defence is examining various options for increasing production capacities, both at existing and possible additional locations.
