In 2017 Diehl Defense and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) entered into a partnership to integrate the Iris-T short-range air-to-air missile into the KF-21 multi-role combat aircraft. The German company is now intensifying its networking in Korea with a further partnership.
During the International Aerospace & Defence Exhibition (ADEX) in Seoul, a memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen cooperation with Lig Nex1, a major Korean defense technology company for missile systems and defense products. The memorandum of understanding envisages examining opportunities for cooperation in the Iris-T program in order to strengthen Diehl’s position on the Asian market. Two years ago, a deepening of Diehl Defence’s partnership with KAI on the integration of Iris-T into the FA-50/T-50 fighter aircraft was announced at ADEX. https://militaeraktuell.at/das-bundesheer-laedt-zur-grossen-leistungsschau-2024/ “In view of the growing demand for missile systems in the Asian market, Korean industrial partners will be increasingly involved in the program and will also benefit from it,” according to a recent Diehl statement. And further: “The cooperation will not only open up new markets for the use of Iris-T, but also develop new versions of the missile. This should go hand in hand with an increase in the performance of Iris-T in order to protect fighter aircraft even better against threats.”
