This week, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner met with the management of Steyr Arms for an exchange of information at the Ministry in Vienna. Robert Schönfeld, founder and CEO of RSBC and owner of Steyr Arms, and Milan Slapak, CEO of Steyr Arms, took part in the meeting. The RSBC Group has held 100 percent of the shares in Steyr Arms since April 2024.
“For the Austrian Armed Forces Steyr Arms is a very important and reliable partner,” emphasized Defense Minister Tanner after the meeting. “With the Assault Rifle 77 (StG 77), the company produces the standard weapon of the Austrian Armed Forces. Since 2017, more than 21,000 of these rifles in different variants have been purchased by the armed forces. More than 36 million euros have been invested in this.”
The Austrian Armed Forces have been relying on this weapon, which is customized for Austrian requirements, since 1977 and use it as a standard weapon for the armed forces. Precision rifles from Steyr Arms are also part of the Armed Forces’ equipment.
“The exchange with Steyr Arms is particularly important to me; we have enjoyed a close and trusting partnership and business relationship for many years,” says Tanner. “The continuous further development of the StG 77 guarantees that our armed forces are equipped in line with the times, and it is good and important that this weapon continues to be produced in Austria.”
Robert Schönfeld and Milan Slapak (-> interview with Militär Aktuell) also emphasized the good cooperation: “We know that we have a reliable partner in Defence Minister Tanner when it comes to equipping the armed forces. We greatly appreciate this trusting and close partnership and want to deepen it.”
