Today we are reporting on orders for Heckler & Koch, Ruag, Dassault, Boeing and other companies from the USA, Slovenia, Norway and Germany.
Norway
Heckler & Koch has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian Ministry of Defense to supply HK416 assault rifle sets for its armed forces. The supply contract runs for 36 months, starting in 2019, and has a total value of around 22 million euros. Norway was the first customer to introduce the HK416 as the standard assault rifle for its armed forces in 2007.
Germany
The Bundeswehr is modernizing its G22 and G22A1 sniper rifles. Accuracy International Ltd (AI) and its German representative Pol-Tec from Fürth are upgrading all 780 weapons to the G22A2 standard by 2020.
Slovenia
The Slovenian armed forces have ordered 38 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) worth 16 million euros from Foreign Military Sales via the US government. The vehicles are to be put into service from 2021 under the designation LKOV 4×4, with almost half of them to be used by special operations forces. Remote-controlled weapon stations are to be installed for the vehicles in the first quarter. Kongsberg M153 remote-controlled weapon stations for light and heavy machine guns and 40 mm grenade launchers are to be ordered in the first quarter. Switzerland
By mid-2022, Ruag will upgrade the Cougar helicopters procured in Switzerland in 1998 to the latest state of the art. The electronic systems for flight control, navigation and communication will be comprehensively modernized. The eight helicopters will be equipped with new flight management computers, a new collision warning system, a precision navigation system for instrument flight and a system developed by RUAG that sounds an alarm when the helicopter leaves a defined altitude. In future, helmet displays will also project the most important flight data directly into the pilot’s field of vision, and the helicopters will also be equipped with the IDAS-3 self-protection system.
France
The French Ministry of Defense has ordered 28 more Rafale fighter jets from Dassault, increasing the firm order to 180 aircraft. Delivery is to be completed by 2024, and additional funds have been released for further development to the F4 standard.
USA
The Pentagon is procuring new maritime patrol aircraft from Boeing. By March 2022, 19 new P8A Poseidons from production batch 10 are to be delivered at a price of more than two billion euros. Ten of these aircraft are planned for the US Navy, four will go to the British Royal Air Force (the first is to be delivered before the end of the year) and five aircraft will go to Norway.
Russia & China
Viktor Kladov from the Russian defense company Rostec announced a few days ago that representatives of Russia and China will soon sign a contract for the joint production of a heavy military helicopter. The aircraft will be able to carry a payload of around 15 tons and will be more powerful than the American Sikorsky helicopters, but not more powerful than the Russian Mi-26.
